TASSANI Hosts Cross-Regional Design Symposium: Bridging Northern and Southern Aesthetics

March 18, 2025 | Guangdong, China

From March 13 to 15, TASSANI, the Italian heritage brand renowned for its artisanal coatings, co-organized the “Yue Design · Yuejincai” Design Symposium in collaboration with Linglu Marketing and Ferrona Cement Tiles. The three-day event brought together over 20 design pioneers from Tianjin, led by Ma Xin and Qiao Ting, for an immersive journey into Lingnan’s architectural and artistic landscape. This initiative fostered a dynamic exchange between northern and southern design philosophies, blending rational pragmatism with poetic innovation.

A Fusion of Regional Design Philosophies

The symposium transcended traditional study tours, serving as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue. Tianjin’s design elites engaged with leading Lingnan-based creatives, including Xu Qingliang, Da Zhe IP Research Institute, Gu Teng, and Zheng Zheng, to explore emerging trends and redefine spatial narratives.

Highlights of the Symposium

1.Dialogue with Xu Qingliang: Architectural Thinking in Interior Design

Studio: RuiKun International · Zhengfang Liangxing Design
Key Takeaways:

Xu Qingliang, founder of Masanori Art and co-founder of Heshang Collective, emphasized “architectural thinking” as the core of interior design.

His approach balances aesthetics, innovative materials, and human-centric functionality, transforming raw spaces into harmonious environments.

Participants explored his studio, where northern analytical rigor met southern artistic deconstruction, sparking debates on spatial authenticity.

  1. IP Strategy Workshop at Da Zhe IP Research Institute

Focus: Branding in the Digital Age

Da Zhe, a top real estate influencer with 8 million followers, shared strategies for building personal IP (Intellectual Property) in design.

The session highlighted leveraging social media to amplify designers’ visibility and commercial success, merging Tianjin’s traditional client-acquisition tactics with Guangdong’s digital-first mindset.

  1. Gu Teng’s Minimalist Mastery: Beyond Boundaries

Studio: Sangu Design

Self-taught designer Gu Teng, winner of the iF Gold Award and Red Dot “Best of the Best,” showcased his philosophy of “holistic design.”

His work prioritizes user experience over aesthetics, emphasizing functional integrity across residential, commercial, and architectural projects.

4. Zheng Zheng’s Commercial Design Insights

Studio: Leaping Creative

Zheng Zheng, a Central Saint Martins graduate and founder of Leaping Creative, demonstrated how multidisciplinary thinking drives brand value.

Visitors explored his studio’s movable paper installations and commercial prototypes, gaining insights into design-driven business strategies.

  1. Architectural Inspiration at He Art Museum

Design by: Tadao Ando

The Tianjin delegation toured Ando’s iconic double-helix staircase, a marvel of concrete craftsmanship symbolizing harmony between geometry and light.

The museum’s fusion of Lingnan culture and modernist principles offered profound lessons in spatial storytelling.

Outcomes: Sparking Innovation Across Borders

The symposium culminated in a shared vision: design transcends geographical limits. Key themes included:

Sustainability: Integrating eco-friendly materials like TASSANI’s mineral-based coatings into regional projects.

Cultural Synthesis: Blending northern structural precision with southern artistic fluidity.
